Creating Rules
How to create and configure product rules for print-on-demand products
Creating Rules
Rules are the heart of WrapStudio for print-on-demand businesses. They connect your products to the 3D visualizer, allowing customers to upload their images and see realistic previews.
Rules work best for products where customers provide their own artwork—like custom canvas prints, personalized framed photos, or any made-to-order print product.
Understanding Rule Types
Before creating a rule, understand the two targeting methods:
| Type | Best For | Scope |
|---|---|---|
| Product Rule | Specific products that need unique settings | 1-10 specific products |
| Collection Rule | Many similar products sharing the same settings | Entire collections |
Creating Your First Rule
Access the Rules Section
From your WrapStudio dashboard, click on Create Rule in the Quick Actions, or navigate to the Rules tab.

Choose Your Target Type
Select whether this rule applies to specific Products or entire Collections.

Collection rules are powerful but apply to ALL products in that collection. Use them for products with identical specifications.
Select Products or Collections
Click the selection area to open the picker. Search for and select your target products or collections.

Selected items appear as cards with their images:

Choose Product Type
Select the type of product you're selling. This determines the 3D visualization style:
| Product Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Frame | Traditional picture frames with mats, glass, and various moulding styles |
| Canvas | Stretched canvas prints with gallery wrap edges |
| Paper | Photo prints, posters, and flat paper products |
| Metal | Metal prints with sleek modern finish |
| Acrylic | Crystal-clear acrylic face-mounted prints |
| Magnet | Refrigerator magnets and magnetic products |

Configure the Editor
The embedded editor opens, letting you configure default settings. These become the starting point when customers use the visualizer.
For Frames, configure:
- Frame moulding style and color
- Mat presence and color
- Glass type (clear, non-glare)
- Background room scene
For Canvas, configure:
- Edge finish (mirror wrap, color, image wrap)
- Canvas texture visibility
- Stretcher bar depth

Name and Save Your Rule
Give your rule a descriptive name that helps you identify it later:
✓ Good: "16x20 Canvas Prints Collection"
✓ Good: "Premium Framed Photos - Gold Moulding"
✗ Bad: "Rule 1"
✗ Bad: "Test"
Click Save Rule to create your rule.

Configuring Frame Rules
When creating rules for framed products, you have extensive customization options:
Moulding Selection
Choose from various frame moulding styles:

- Classic Wood: Traditional wooden frames in various finishes
- Modern Metal: Sleek aluminum frames for contemporary looks
- Ornate: Decorative frames for formal artwork
- Minimal: Thin, clean frames that don't distract from the art
Mat Configuration
Mats add depth and elegance to framed pieces:

- Enable/Disable: Toggle mat visibility
- Mat Color: Choose from white, cream, black, or custom colors
- Mat Width: Adjust the visible mat border width
Glass Options
Control the glass appearance:
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
| Clear Glass | Shows artwork with realistic glass reflection |
| Non-Glare | Minimal reflections for clearer viewing |
| No Glass | Canvas or open-frame appearance |
Configuring Canvas Rules
Canvas rules focus on edge treatment and texture:
Edge Finish

| Edge Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Mirror Wrap | Image is reflected on the edges |
| Image Wrap | Image continues around the edges |
| Color Wrap | Solid color on edges (black, white, or custom) |
Stretcher Bar Depth
Choose the canvas depth:
- 0.75" - Standard gallery wrap
- 1.5" - Deep gallery wrap
- 2.5" - Extra deep for dramatic effect
Testing Your Rule
After saving, test your rule to ensure it works correctly:
Upload a Test Image
Upload a sample image to verify the 3D preview looks correct.
Check All Product Types
If your rule applies to multiple product types, test each one.
Managing Existing Rules
Viewing All Rules
Navigate to Dashboard → Manage Rules to see all your created rules.

Editing a Rule
Click the Edit button on any rule to modify its settings. The editor opens with all existing configuration loaded.
Deleting a Rule
Click the Delete button and confirm to remove a rule. This action cannot be undone.
Deleting a rule immediately removes the 3D visualizer from all associated products. Customer uploaded images are not affected—only the WrapStudio button disappears.
Best Practices
Do's ✓
- Use descriptive names that include product type and collection
- Test with real customer images before going live
- Start with collection rules for similar products to save time
- Configure reasonable defaults that showcase your products well
Don'ts ✗
- Don't create overlapping rules for the same products
- Don't forget to add the WrapStudio block to your theme
- Don't use overly bright default colors that distract from customer artwork
Troubleshooting
Rule not showing on product page?
- Verify the product is correctly linked to the rule
- Check that you've added the WrapStudio block to your theme
- Ensure the block is enabled in theme customization
- Clear your browser cache and refresh
